Week 2 Podcast Review

Better late than never but maybe not this time? Let’s see how the latest podcast goes.

14:44 The short version of the Bill Simmons story is: Back when Simmons was on ESPN’s Page 2, Simmons and I were on the same Celtics message board. Simmons did a draft article that was a back-and-forth between him and ESPN’s former draft ““guru” Chad Ford and, after the article was posted, Bill posted on the message board that he had googled for info on bad Chad Ford predictions and he had come upon an anti-Chad Ford screed I had posted and he used the info. On one hand, it’s nice that he at least acknowledged it but it would have been much better if he’d given attribution on ESPN rather than on a private message board. (Of course, my post was probably far too negative about his buddy Ford for him to want to put it on ESPN.)
That being said, Simmons isn’t even my main sliding door moment; when SBNation was getting going, they asked me to the their Celtics blogger but they asked right when I was thinking “I need to spend less time on blogging and more on my career” so I turned it down. Ah well. At least reality TV isn’t going anywhere… oh shit. WHAT HAVE I DONE?!

I am surprised to hear the podcast bashing Simmons because I feel like the Sports Guy was one of the first people to abandon the written word and move to the recordings of people droning on aimlessly. Of course, he kind of had to go all-in on the podcasts after his TV show tanked.

I will say, the only thing I see of him now is when he somehow pops up on my Instagram feed and I feel like he’s less annoying now but maybe it’s just because I only see him for one minute at a time. On the flip side, anything entertainment related from The Ringer is usually completely useless and fairly intolerable.

27:18 The games have started so I’m half paying attention now. I will say that for all of the crap that Drake Maye is getting, and it is deserved, my bigger concern is Josh McDaniels’s playcalling. This is just a boring offense. It’s not Packers bad but it ain’t great.
