Ten Tunes: Foxy Shazam

A new segment that I’ll probably abandon before week 6 is a Lessons from Thursday Night Football and Ten Tunes, where I share ten tunes that I think people should give a listen to.

When it comes to the Ten Tunes for Week 1, the obvious choice is my Top Ten songs from Foxy Shazam. Brett posted that they are playing in Vegas soon and I can say that they were amazing when I saw them live years ago at the Troubadour but the problem is that they have a few albums since their peak (I’d say the peak was their self-titled second album) and I can’t say that I’d want to go to a concert and hear their deep cuts. Picking a top ten was difficult but only because there are probably 14 songs of their that I really love so it was tough to trim off the last 4.

As for Thursday Night Football, my easy new gig appears to be much more work than I expected so I’ll probably have to Bobby Boxscore this most weeks. All I can really comment about this week is how ridiculous the announcer sounded as he was simply SHOCKED that the Rams weren’t trying to tie the game as they were down three scores with just over three minutes left in the 4th quarter in a game they weren’t really fired up about playing in the first place.

But that’s clearly not enough so let me put on my ESPN Talking Head hat and make some wild overreactions to one game.

LA Rams? More like LA BUMS, AMIRITE?! This is the team that the entire NFC is supposed to be afraid of? Is Aaron Donald going to make up the difference between the hype and the hooey we saw on the field down under? Maybe showing up just this morning wasn’t the best idea.

Apologies to the 49ers. I alway think this is the year they are exposed but they keep doing it. Brock Purdy is legit. The defense was much better than expected. If Kaelon Black can keep it up, it won’t be great for Christian McCaffrey’s fantasy numbers but it’ll help him have something left in the tank for the second half of the season. Even Mike Evans - maligned by the podcast - got into the act. Although, to be fair, I think Eli and Andy’s issue with ol’ Mike is a longer term deal - can he stay healthy and deliver in a league where the regular season is basically just prologue to the wild playoff format.

Matthew Stafford regression season is upon us! Sell your shares and lower your target prices for Puka and Davante! Kyren Williams also better score touchdowns because Blake Corum could quickly become the chairman of that committee.

OVER/UNDER on the decibel level of Eli’s scream when Brendan’s kicker Eddy Pineiro missed that last kick?

And finally, this is unrelated to football but it’s basketball and I need to complain to someone about this but WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE BULLSHIT UNIFORMS?! Nike’s alternate NBA uniforms are always garbage but these look like someone just tried Photoshop for the first time. At least they had the common sense to put a punk ass white kid in the Celtics jersey. The funniest thing about these uniforms is that the write-up said, “The uniforms include details inspired by each franchise's history, city heritage and fan culture.” What? Is that Celtics jersey highlighting the love of green beer in Boston or something? The Nike swoosh is bigger than the damn city names. What a mess.
