Week 4 Waiver Wire Review

Everyone’s favorite new feature from The Gentleman is probably running it course as the year goes by and the waiver wire gets weaker and weaker. But this was a big week for the big spenders!

Last week, Nico continued to school the league as despite all of the money thrown around by others, his guy Arvell “The Afterthought” Reese dropped 15 points, delivering the best points per dollar output and he looks like he could be a game changing IPD.

Will Shipley was obviously going to be the #1 target - with Saquon hurt and Tank on the IR - but I did not expect to see $66. I actually thought he was still on Rahul’s roster but apparently Will’s cup of coffee with Rahul’s squad didn’t go well as the team that is holding onto the best name in league history didn’t even bother putting a bid in for Little Willie Styles. Derek broke the bank and brought home a third string RB who will be facing one of the best run defenses in the league this week.

As for Rahul, he set his sights on the much maligned Marshawn Lloyd and it was a good news, bad news situation. The good news is that Rahul’s $25 brought home Lloyd, who could be in for more work with Chris Brooks injured and Kaleb Johnson fumbling in the red zone last week (and Matt LaFleur threatening benchings for people who don’t take care of the ball.) The bad news is that Rahul bid a quarter of his budget to get someone who nobody else bothered to put a bid in on. Even Andy, who thought he could get Shipley for $2 didn’t waste the clicks to put in a bid.
What makes this big bid even more curious is the fact that Patrick Mahomes is on a bye this week and the most obvious drop on Rahul’s roster to grab a replacement is now… Marshawn Lloyd.

Colin had a similar overpay, dropping $20 on a guy I must confess that I never heard of before this morning. Brett and Eli tied for second with $3 bids. Dohnte - this is the first time I’ve seen this spelling of the name so kudos Mama Meyers - gets the Dolphins and looks to be WR1 in Cincy for at least one week but will Colin even start him? Would he bench his guy Khalil Shakir who is coming off his best week of the season? A week in which he was benched which potentially cost Colin a win?

Derek’s gamble on Bryce Young is paying off but he’s on a bye this week so Sadat X brought in Jacoby Brissett, who is facing Detroit’s horrific defense.

Brett eked out a win over Eli and Yurk to bring home Mike Gesicki, who always seems to do his best work while sitting on the waiver wire. Brett already has Brock Bowers so could Gesicki win the Flex spot over the always fun-to-roster JK Dobbins? Meanwhile, Yurk’s penny pinching cost him as he now has no replacement for Travis Kelce’s bye week.

Eli spent $3 on Peyton Wilson to punish Andrew Van Ginkel for putting up a pathetic 1.5 points.

Darius Cooper didn’t muster much love, only fetching a $2 bid from Andy but he’s got the best catch/TD ratio in the league with 5 catches and 3 TDs. One Shady Motha also hit the bargain bin for Dre Greenlaw to replace the injured Edgerrin Cooper. Do you think there’s an alternate universe where Edgerrin is the Jalen and there are 40 players sporting the name with 25 different spellings?

Johnny and Yurk close out the bidding with zero bids for DeForest Buckner and CJ Stroud.

This week’s early risers were Nico, Brett, and Eli, who logged on at 6:30am to pick up Adonai Mitchell. Now because Mitchell is listed as doubtful, does that make him IR eligible for when he is eventually listed out this week (which will then allow Eli to pick up a kicker)? Is this another example of The Commish playing fast and loose with the rules?
