Week 4 Results
/A perfect week of picks… well, besides the one game I forgot to go back to on Sunday morning and THE ONE TIE GAME! This season seems like each week has a theme and this week’s theme was close games. After weeks of 50 point blowouts, this week saw mostly hotly contested matchups throughout the league and no team dipped below 95 points!
GAME OF THE WEEK
COLIN vs GRANT - PICK: COLIN / WINNER: TIE
This was certainly the game of the week as it ended in a 104.8 tie. Grant got UK’d as he didn’t swap out an injured Keenan Allen before the London game started. Colin benched his guy Khalil Shakir, who could have given him the win. We’ll have to wait to see if there are any stat corrections to see if my Colin prediction can come to fruition.
UPSET OF THE WEEK
DEREK vs RAHUL - PICK: RAHUL / WINNER: RAHUL
The Gentleman called it! Injury luck kind of worked out in Rahul’s favor this week. I mean, yeah, Saquon got hurt again and then Tank Bigsby went down but Derek had two starters - Chase and Love - go down to help cement the Upset of the Week and, sadly, brings an end to the best name in the league.
BATTISTA’S DUD OF THE WEEK
THE GENTLEMAN vs. ERIC - PICK: ERIC / WINNER: ERIC
I said Eric would win if Justin Jefferson was out and so he did. Although I’m not sure J Jetta would have helped me this week and Eric launched into the Top 9 for his first double dub of the season! For The Gentleman, David Montgomery is officially a bust and is dragging this squad down, which is pretty impressive because we were pretty low to begin with.
THE THORN IN ELI’S SIDE BOWL
NATE vs. ANDY - PICK: NONE / WINNER: NATE
Picking up Zach Ertz lit a fire under Kyle Pitts who put up a monstrous 6.2 points this week on Nate’s bench. Tet McMillan and Malik Nabers’s big games were enough to push Nate to a victory, even with Greg Rousseau somehow managing to not sack Drake Maye.
THE REST
PLAYER #14 vs BRETT - PICK: PLAYER #14 / WINNER: PLAYER #14
The Veep was finally challenged in a game and narrowly escaped with a one point victory. The measly 101.9 points means that Player #14 falls from the ranks of the undefeated.
ELI vs NICO - PICK: NICO / WINNER: NICO
The Fighting Borts again narrowly avoid a name change as Devaughn Vele’s amazing garbage time touchdown catch brought Eli within 50 points of Nick and (as Eli pointed out to me) it also netted him a Watson-saving Victory Point. Without that TD, the ninth place spot would have been a tie between Colin and Grant and who knows how that would have worked out.
BERNIE/BERNARD vs JOHN - PICK: BERNIE / WINNER: BERNIE
I didn’t think this one would be close but Kenneth Walker and CeeDee Lamb did their damndest to prove me wrong. But my pick stood strong and Bernie gets to change his name back in large part because Justin Herbert is complete garbage. Not that the play calling did him any favors.
MARK vs BRENDAN - PICK: BRENDAN / WINNER: BRENDAN
Brendan was vulnerable after Matthew Stafford struggled against the Eagles while Josh Downs and Tyler Warren had a surprisingly bad game against the Commies. But a monster week for his defense and a great pickup with Matt Gay allowed him to avoid a shock upset to the still defeated Mark, who failed to break triple digits yet again.
YURK vs. DANA - PICK: YURK / WINNER: YURK
Closing out my perfect* week, Yurk eased his way to a victory over Dana, who posted the lowest score of the week. But it was a rough win for Yurk as Lamar Jackson and Tee Higgins both got dinged up.
TOP 9: Rahul, Nico, Player #14, Bernie, Brendan, Colin, Grant, Nate, TBD - Derek/Andy (Missed: Eric, Johnny, Yurk, Eli)
