So let's talk next year...

Like many people, one glance at my roster and I immediately started looking ahead to next year. I already know that I need to be more willing to a) spend money on top wide receivers and b) wear turtlenecks to strip clubs but beyond that there are a few questions swirling around in my noggin.

Do we need to draft earlier?
In general, this felt like the most subdued draft but especially by the end, there were more yawns than laughs. Father Time is undefeated and none of us seem immune. Johnny was literally tucked into the couch before everyone had left. Wooster seemed more interested in reading glasses than his roster. One good tirade was all Eli and Bernie had in them; men once fueled by rage are now one grump chumps.
I was thinking that drafting an hour or two earlier could help but Derek mentioned drafting in the day, which is also an interesting idea (and opens up the opportunity for a post-draft dinner.) I know Jeff will argue, “But I don’t want to miss the game involving the college I didn’t actually attend or ever reside remotely close to!” But since he was cancelled. we don’t have to concern ourselves with his whims anymore.

At the very least…

The Pre-Draft Whammy Battle should be shorter
Also, if immunity is on the line, no more team events so we don’t have four people immune from punishment again. Perhaps we do something that could be concluded before the draft - for instance, everyone has to bet $50 on the morning college football games - person who wins the most money gets immunity and the power to choose the last place punishment.

However, this leads us to another question…

Are whammies tearing the league apart?
On one hand, the whammies have been a major success; there’s no way so many people show up for private room karaoke without some reward. On the other hand, the two biggest emotional breakdowns occurred because of Whammies and we almost lost J-Dubbs when ol’ Willie Wine Country was forced to chug a *gasp* domestic beer. (So much for Mr. America First.) That being said, the Drambuie shot giving panned out nicely. I think the whammies were a great innovation by Eli but maybe we need to shake them up a little.

Finally, the matter of the last place punishment…
May I suggest that the last place finisher has to handle the draft board duties (with Max Bet help from Justin and Eli)? I run the draft in my other league and it definitely takes one’s attention away from their own draft so I feel like Eli deserves a break.
