TRADE GRADE: DAVIS BROTHERS COLLUSION?!
/Listen, I never vote against trades but seriously, what’s going on with this? (Full disclosure: I’m even more bothered and am kicking myself for not offering the trades I was thinking of this week because it’s better than this.) I also find it suspicious that this trade was accepted after the podcast was released so there could be no reaction from the Dandyelions. SOMEONE TELL PLAYER #14 TO GET ON THE HORN TO HIS GIRL PAM BONDI TO INVESTIGATE THIS!
DEREK: F
Deebo Samuel has scored 2.3 points more than Ja’Marr Chase. Justin Herbert has scored 5.7 more points than Sam Darnold. In a vacuum, I guess that means this trade is even but I just don’t see how you can give up Ja’Maar for a reportedly banged-up Deebo just to mildly upgrade the QB position. ESPECIALLY when Derek is starting TreVeyon Henderson at RB. And he has to be concerned that Rachaad White has done enough in Bucky Irving’s absence to earn a bigger timeshare when Bucky comes back. AND Deebo is peaking right now because Terry McLaurin is out. I’d also note that Chase’s struggles have come against pretty great defenses and after this week against the Packers, Cincy’s schedule eases up. (To be fair, Deebo also has a decent schedule the rest of the way and nice playoff matchups.) DESPITE A SLOW START BY HIS STANDARDS, JA’MARR IS STILL THE 8TH RANKED WR IN FANTASY!
I questioned Derek’s stance about not making trades but now I’m thinking that he was right about it and should have stuck to his guns on riding with the guys he drafted.
COLIN: A+
This is an insane, league-altering, sell-high/buy-low deal. Ja’Marr is about to face the 26th, 15th, 25th, 28th, 26th, 23rd, and 31st ranked pass defenses before running into Buffalo in Week 14. The playoffs? Chase has got Baltimore, @Miami, and Arizona. If I take off my glasses and get drunk enough, COLIN does start to look a lot like CAIN! Because of this dastardly, Biblical sibling-abuse, I’m now disqualifying Colin from the Mea Culpa award that he was the frontrunner for. I feel no shame for doubting someone who could do their own blood this dirty.
All of this being said, whenever I feel this strongly about a trade, it ends up being a nothingburger, which - again - is why I never vote against trades. Even ones that will be talked about at the family reunion for years on end.
